Development Coordinator (Full Time, Non-Exempt)

Date Effective: September 2025

Supervised by: Assistant Director of Development

                          (Reports indirectly to Assistant Director of Membership, Chief Development Officer)


The Environment: The Frist Art Museum (FAM) is a non-collecting institution committed to presenting temporary exhibitions of the world’s art from all cultures, periods, and in all mediums, offering art-related programs onsite and in the community the institution was created to serve. FAM opened in April 2001 in Nashville’s historic downtown post office building. Its development was the result of unprecedented community involvement and cooperation from the public and private sectors which developed this institution that now serves as a hub of Nashville’s flourishing arts community.

The city of Nashville is steadfast in its commitment to the arts, as evidenced by the explosion of new galleries, important art exhibitions at the city’s existing institutions, and the formation of new visual and performing arts organizations. This growth is raising awareness of the arts to new and exciting levels in the city.


Job Summary:  The Development Coordinator assists the Development department in the planning and executing of the Frist Art Museum’s annual fundraising campaigns. This role plays a critical part in sustaining and growing the museum’s base of philanthropic support while ensuring consistent, mission-driven messaging across donor and member communications. Working collaboratively with colleagues in development, membership, marketing, and leadership, this position supports strategic goals related to annual giving, membership engagement, campaign communications, and donor stewardship. The ideal candidate is a strong writer, project coordinator, and strategic thinker with a passion for storytelling and relationship building.


The following duties are normal for this classification. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the implementation of a comprehensive annual giving strategy to increase donor acquisition, retention, and upgrade rates.
  • Assist in coordinating a year-round calendar of multi-channel appeals and general communications (email, print, social media, etc.).
  • Coordinate and assist with writing, and editing donor-centric content, including appeals, newsletters, stewardship reports, and donor impact stories.
  • Coordinate stewardship communications with our members/donors and ensure it is done in coordination with our overall communications calendar and strategies.
  • Create campaign-related materials in collaboration with graphic designers and/or consultants/Assistant Director/Chief Development Officer.
  • Work with Assistant Directors, Grants Manager and Chief Development Officer on case for support content and campaign materials.
  • Ensure development messaging aligns with the museum’s broader communications and brand identity.
  • Support event communications (including Frist Gala) such as invitation language, programs, and post-event follow-up.
  • Point person for print vendors and mail houses, when applicable for development’s external communications.
  • Point person for other internal museum departments related to content needed for communication with external constituents including donor lists/recognition, events, and program details.
  • Assist Assistant Director of Development and Chief Development Officer with entering important donor information properly into Tessitura.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent writing, editing, and project coordination skills.
  • Ability to work cross-departmentally and balance multiple priorities with attention to detail.
  • Passion for the arts and commitment to the mission of the Frist Art Museum.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Background in communications, nonprofit management, marketing, or related field.
  • Experience in nonprofit fundraising, communications, or related work.
  • Experience with museum or cultural institution fundraising.
  • Design sensibility and/or familiarity with content tools like Canva, InDesign, or similar.
  • Knowledge of fundraising best practices and donor lifecycle strategies.
  • Familiarity with donor databases (e.g., Tessitura, Raiser’s Edge) and email marketing platforms.

  • Lifting materials up to 25 pounds
  • Stooping, bending, kneeling
  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Working at computer for long periods of time
